This is one of the best breakdowns of crime that occurred thorughout a year, I have ever read.The research that Mr Rosewood put into this volume is oustanding. He detailed each crime individually worldwide. The effort and hours he must have put in writing such a great book should enititle him to being one of the best true crime writers of this era.There were alot that I hadn't heard of and I didn't realize all the crime we had in 2018 and to deliver this to his readers so early in 2019. Just wow!!If you want a diary of true crime that occurred last year, buy this; you will not be disappointed.

What didn't I like? I love Jack Rosewood's Anthologies. Besides being well written, and informative, they enable me to read a condensed version of a crime, which allows me to decide what story do i want to know more. I have been a True Crime addict when I read "Helter Skelter" in the 70's. As a mom with a first grader, I would meet with the other mom's while waiting for our kids. A lot of the time, I was in a book that I just could not put down. The other moms started asking me about my books, soon we had a circle, now 43 years old. I used the Anthologies to see which way we are going next. Of course, writing short stories can be vastly different than a full sized book. I am happy to report that Mr. Rosewood's writing is just as strong, still makes you want to finish the book in one sitting. I reccomend this book for all of the above reasons, but the main reason I reccomend this book, it simply, it is GREAT!

David has really captured the suffering and hope of the millions displaced, ravaged by war and genocide. He has done it in a way that makes it personal. His photography talent is phenomenal.

You would be hard pressed to find somebody who has ever heard David speak and still is not doing anything to support his efforts or the efforts of others involved in the fight for Sudan. Those of us who are lucky enough to know him and hear him on a regular basis know of his passion and heart, but those who are not lucky enough to have seen him, buy this book and gain understanding about the situation in Sudan.Please know that the cheaper you buy this book, however, the less money actually goes back to helping the people of Sudan. Do your research to find out how you can do more to support Silent Images or other causes dedicated to Sudan.

I found this book in the photography section of our local bookstore. It was hard to sit and look at the photos, read the stories and not cry. I really enjoyed how he ended the book with the children having fun. What an eye opener to what's going on in Sudan. Thank you!

I went to college with David and this book shows all the passion for life and warmth he shared with all of us. It is hard to find a book that can move my students as much as it moved me, but this one did. His pictures tell a story and it is one worth telling.

I personally know David Johnson and I must say that he made this book with not one ounce of himself in mind. It shows in the book and the photography within. Not to mention, all the profits (every penney) go towards building wells in Sudan. Some people talk about doing good, others simply do good.Thanks David and what an awesome book.

David Johnson has a tremendous talent for photography, and has truly captured the conditions of the Sudanese people. His images are incredibly beautiful and moving. In addition, the book is a great resource on learning how to help the Sudanese people.

First off - it's worth noting that Google lets you read this entire book for free on their website.I bought the Kindle version anyways because I spend enough time in front of a backlit screen that it seemed worth it to read something this large using a device that's better on your eyes. Unfortunately the Kindle version is formatted terribly and I wish I'd bought the print version instead. The book is broken up into Parts which are broken up into Chapters which are further broken up into headlined sections. The Kindle version identifies those headlined sections as chapters which is somewhat useless.Anyways, the first few chapters aren't especially useful unless you work at Google. They mostly discuss what's unique about Google's computing infrastructure. Despite this, they were EASILY my favorite part of the book because the material is so interesting and their approach is so unique. After that, each chapter is written in a way that it can stand on its own if you aren't reading the entire book, or are reading it out of order. This is convenient for people who want to pick and choose what parts they want to read, but means that people who are reading the entire thing wind up getting a lot of the same information multiple times. It's all written by different people too, which on the one hand makes it not quite as repetitive, but on the other hand makes it hard to just skim over the sections with info you already have because you don't recognize it as information you already know until you've processed it.Overall this is a fantastic book on DevOps, SRE, and current trends in the industry, It's a great read for anyone who wants to apply some "best practices" to their role. I would however say that reading the entire thing is overkill for most people and not necessarily the best use of your time if you have other things you'd like to be learning as well.Part 1 - Fascinating read. I imagine this would be a good overview if you're about to start at Google and want a sneak peek at how things are done, but I'm only speculating this as an outsider.Part 2 - Interesting and useful concepts for modern cloud computing.Part 3 - Some useful info and a lot of stuff that's not really unique to Google in my experience. Read the parts that you think you could use some improvement on, skip the rest.Part 4 - A condensed view from a managerial perspective of things you already read in Part 3.Part 5 - Some case studies, comparisons from other businesses, a useless recap, and examples that could be useful to share using the website version of the book if you're trying to explain to your team what new concepts are being implemented.

This is a great book! It touches on a lot of great ways to think about developer operations and similar engineering. The only complaint that I have is that sometimes it gets too into how Google does things without creating reasonable contrasting arguments for other ways to solve the same problem.There are also large sections that go into specific internal Google software tools, which are essentially not valuable to anyone who doesn't plan to work at Google.Otherwise, it's a good book. :)

Look, I loved this book when I first stated reading this and was going to give it 5 stars. This book was written by a committee of authors and it showed. So much replication and repetition! It needs a good editor and the concepts could be covered in much less than 200 pages.The other thing that annoyed me was that EVERY tool they talked about was written in-house and has almost no relevance in the real world. Someone needs to write a (shorter) 'real world' SRE book.

I've been working as a performance engineer for a few years now and have been heading towards SRE since the beginning without knowing. This helps to identify areas I need to improve on and areas where I've been heading down the right path already. It also helps to identify why other performance engineers have said my obsession with monitoring and incident handling was outside of the traditional domain 😁

This seems like it has become an industry referenced book that highlights important techniques and experiences. I read it on kindle for my practicality on my commute, but probably also need a physical copy too for easier referencing

This book is a bit dated, but it is still an excellent read if you are new to training with a power meter. Even thought this book covers some racing information, it is specific to how to use power meter data to train. It does push you in the direction of the authors' training tools (i.e., Training Peaks, WKO), but I can't really fault them for that. I use Training Peaks and this book is almost like a manual for how to use the website, as well as interpret the data. It provides a whole lot of workouts for different needs: anaerobic, aerobic, VO2, threshold, etc., which are nice when you are just getting started. If you have just bought your first power meter, if you don't do some reading on how to use it to train, you have probably spent a lot of money for no real return other than a new number on your head unit dash. I would highly recommend this book as a place to start learning how to use that new toy to push you to new levels of performance.

Gold standard book of power-based training. You'll get the most from this guide by devoting the time to read it fully and take notes as you go. Covers all aspects of power-based training and is fully referenced with supporting peer-reviewed research. Pushes using the TrainingPeaks website and WKO+ very heavily, both are good resources. If you're looking for a less expensive alternative, consider using the open-source Golden Cheetah program, which provides nearly all of the charts and metrics that are in WKO+, and a few that it doesn't have, like the Chung Aerolab (simple way of measuring your CdA and Crr), and Veloclinic Plots (alternative representation of the critical power chart). This book is required reading by anyone who wants to optimize their training.

Very detailed, which was great, reading it as a sport physiologist, yet applicable and explained well enough that any cyclist can use the tools therein immediately. Authors might have stepped outside their box a little when attempting to make their case that traditional weightlifting and strength training isn't beneficial for cyclists. I'll forgive them. That wasn't the point of the book, and I think they provided great rational and useful tools to guide power meter use and interpretation for every facet of cycling, from training plan design, to single workout analysis and even intra-race decision making. Great book.

I bought an SRM before I bought this book and I could quickly see that it would transform the way I train. However I felt like I lacked in a lot of areas "how can I analyze the data?", "how can I build a training system?", "what are my strengths?". I had already read Joe Friel's book which is great for basic training and periodization but does not go into that much depth on how to actually use a power meter. A power meter is a complex tool and if you don't know how to use it won't benefit you that much. This book tells you how to use the power meter to figure out what kind of rider you are, find your weaknesses, very good suggested exercises and teaches you how to use the tools to their full extent. Combined with Joe's book you end up with an amazing combination. The only complaint I have about it is their focus on how great WKO+ is (a software they develop), however if you've read this book you'll know enough to be able to use any other software (I personally use Golden Cheetah). I'd recommend a power meter to any serious cyclist and without this book getting a power meter is a waste of money. The Cyclist's Training Bible

This book is clearly written for those of us who like to use quantitative results–numbers–to motivate and guide our training. That said, I feel it can be a valuable learning resource even if you aren’t planning on using a power meter.Athletes need a schema, a way of looking at the process of building physical capacity to judge what next steps would benefit our development. The lens you use to view your workouts might be based on heart rate, perceived effort or power generated. This book lays a foundation based on power, but still adds a deeper understanding to heart rate and perceived effort training.I was impressed that there was real value if you just scanned it, read the text without trying to interrupt the charts, or studied the texts, examples and charts carefully. Each time I have gone through it I have seen increased benefit from my training time. It always helps me feel more grounded and motivated to approach my bike training with an eye to creating results that fit my goals and strengths.Even though I don’t race, it has also motivated me to get a power meter to improve my times in distance events.

I would say this book is like a bible of power meter. All sorts of information on both tech (power meter device itself) and training (examples, charts, training samples).It is certainly overwhelming for a novice to power meter training, but you can find everything you need to know in this book.

Just like the other reviewers stated, this book is great. It has more info than you will ever be able to use. I have taken some specific workouts and put them in my routine and have been very happy. I'm a Cat 3 and can't wait to try some more of the workouts to push it to the next level.

It's pretty technical. It's a good book, and I've yet to finish it, but it is very technical and might be a bit over my head for some points. Either way, if it doesn't make sense now, it will be a good book to "grow" with during my education of power meters, because I'm sure at some point the information will become relevant and beneficial . I would recommend it.

Find out about how different snakes in different parts of the world and basic snake characteristics.I really don't like snakes, but I knew this would be short so I took a deep breath and read it as fast as possible because I really do like these National Geographic Kids Pre-readers. They are just right for inquisitive beginning readers with fantastic photographs (or in this case, horrifyingly realistic). The text is simple and fairly easy (some of the snake names are a bit challenging). On the positive side, I live in a part of the world where cobras are semi-frequently sighted...even in places where students frequent at school (like on the soccer field) so it is good for the kids to know what to watch out for and this provides some great photos of what they look like. Most of the other snakes included are also venomous, so kids all over the world can benefit from the safety benefits of reading this. There's a map in the back showing where each snake is from. And of course, there are those kids who just can't get enough of these sinuous slitherers and they will probably read this over and over and over. Once was enough for me but glad this is available for the snake lovers.
