There are 8 books in this series and the "Search Inside" showed very little of any of them. I knew I wasn't a complete beginner but not sure how to choose any other level. (Several months of lessons as a child--many years ago--and kind of playing around "fake book" style ever since. Can play single notes in the treble clef easily --but not without looking at the keyboard and can't read combos/chords on sight. The bass clef is harder. I can identify single notes about low C but can't play simultaneously with treble notes. Lower than that, and I have to think about it too long.)I share this in case it will help anyone else identify the level this book would be suited for--what the author considers "late elementary". It assumes you know or can figure out the names of notes in treble and bass clefs-- no letter identification-- "A, G#, etc". So you need to be able to identify the notes already.Also important is that there is nothing faster than eighth notes, and not very many exercises with them. What worked very very well for me was that the exercises were written with both treble and bass clef parts BUT rarely played together. There might be a note overlapping at the beginning or in the middle of a measure, but you're not playing both hands simultaneously very often (this is good as it helps with sight reading--individual notes (a few two-note chords in treble or bass but they repeat in the measure--you're not asked to change very quickly. Similarly with the treble and bass notes mainly alternating measures (with a little single-note overlap), this is very manageable. It was very "doable" in that my sight reading improved and I didn't feel overwhelmed.I imagine in the next book -- Low Intermediate-- there are more notes in combination, and more overlap between bass and dtreble clef. Probably also more eighths, sixteenths and complicated rhythm patterns (the rhythm here is pretty straightforward--if a measure has eighth notes, it probably is ALL eighth notes, or a beginning quarter or half note. You don't have to count out patterns in advance ("sight reading!") and its perfect for practicing with a metronome.Great book!

I'm a pianist at the intermediate level, but my sightreading skills are well below par. This book arrived today, I completed the first three exercises and used Harris's method on an arrangment of a Haydn piece from the Haydn-Shaum book (Book I). Much to my delight, I was able to play through the piece correctly and musically despite never having played it before. Harris has you clap the rhythm, make a note of key and time signatures, as well as scan the piece to make a note of finger changes - these are based on finger changes made while playing scales. This kind of prep prior to playing a piece ensures that one sight reads fluently and well.The exercises are musical and incorporate rhythms and finger changes (dotted quarter notes followed by eighth notes etc.) that one would encounter in any piece of music. The rhythm moves from treble to bass clef so both hands are given equal importance.I strongly recommend Harris's books (they are graded, so start at whatever level you're comfortable sight-reading) to anyone who wishes to improve their sight-reading skills, and wants to play a piece musically and fluently from a score at first sight!

This book isn’t loaded with 200 pages of bull. A little over view but then straight to the exercises. Have been doing them for just a week and I feel better. Like this and Foundations for Core and back.

I had high expectations for a book on posture by two great physical therapists who also are some of the best bodyweight fitness instructors in the world.And, it’s better than I thought. It manages to do an amazing job of explaining fairly high level stuff like the biopsychosocial model of pain and neuromatrix theory of pain, in really short, clear chapters. Like three or four pages. And each mini-chapter, with all of it’s simplicity and clarity, also lists a ton of references and a bullet-point learning takeaway at the end.What I really love, is how they approach posture — they don’t use scare tactics. They explain exactly how postural issues might cause pain, and why they might not cause any pain at all. They leave you with an honest look at how improving posture could improve strength and performance, and how it could help as part of a plan to relieve pain. It’s such a refreshing approach to both posture and pain that I think everyone should read it to get a better context for how and when they fit together.There’s a big emphasis on strength endurance, which I also love. Many of the mobility and corrective exercises were favorites of mine from when I worked in a physical therapy office, or when I’ve taken corrective exercise courses. Many were totally brand new (like the foot exercises and the shoulder reset), and I’m stoked to try them out.Another cool part is that the movements start small and work up to legit integrated strength movements. I feel like this could be integrated into someone’s workout, or they could start with this and progress it into their workout. The emphasis on building strength endurance is legit.Most of my clients come to me to lose weight. Essentially, their goal is to “look better.” And, that’s actually probably the biggest reason I would recommend this book — most people like the way they look better with better posture. If your goal is to look fitter and even more confident, I would recommend this book in parallel with your other fitness and food skill programs.Lastly, it finishes with some parts on habit change, and then different plans based on your individual needs. The plans get bonus points for having all the pictures of all the movements in each plan, which is cool because that’s way easier.So, if you want to look better and feel better in your body, I’d check out Overcoming Poor Posture. At 125 pages, it’s a quick read, which will get you right into the most important part — doing one of the plans in the book.

I had the honor of interviewing Steven Low on my podcast (Anchors of Health) regarding this book and his other amazing book, Overcoming Gravity.This book is concise, well-organized, easy to read and super practical. You can quickly read it in one sitting and start taking action right away. The book allows you to customize your approach to work on the areas you most need. Also, in the back of the book there are even sample plans. One in particular is called "on the job" for people who sit for most of the day.I highly recommend this book!

A short, useful handbook in body awareness, motor control and body weight movements. Loved the summarizing text where the 'myth busting' of how posture doesn't directly correlate to chronic pain met with the notion of the other important aspects that body weight training can offer.

I found this to be much easier to use than Deskbound. Deskbound requires a lot of tools- balls, bands, rollers. OPS just uses a band for some exercises and a dbell for dbell rows. The neck exercises have paid off. I can look completely over right shoulder and almost completely over left. The walking variations are nice for moving around at work after sitting for a long time. There are routines to address specific problem areas, a short routine, work mobility and routines that you can add to whatever other exercise plan you're doing.

It almost seems to make a lot of aches and pains go away. Good stuff in this book.

The author doesnr explicitly state what constitutes good posture so it might leave some people scratching their heads when trying to establish guidelines for the exercises. Maybe it’s as the author says: that there is no such thing as “correct posture” because that depends on the moment and what you’re doing in that moment and for how long you are doing what you’re doing. I do many of the exercises daily especially rolling around on the floor.

As always, Steven Lowe delivers direct, solid, useful rehab information. I've been following this guy's information from back in the old CF days. This book delivers no-nonsense, easy to use, efficient information and exercises on how to fix your posture that's ruined from sitting at a desk. He includes programs for people who are short on time and lays it out in a way you can actually adopt. Great book, great information.

This one of the list I want to learn to keep up with my website. They tell me that Python is a new program which is like java since it's new and recommended from most Web Developer. They added that the best thing about learning python is that if you can learn this language, then all other coding languages will be easier to learn and the learning curve for coding in general will be cut in half because all codes are similar. I bought this book since it has what I want through its title. This book is great. The author explained what Python is, then goes through all the software to run python, code formats, what variables and more great information. Absolutely recommend for beginners and as a quick reference. Looking forward to more advance guide.

A great guide or reference to all beginners out there. This book is written very well and can easily be understood. The author did a great job in writing this because it was well detailed and the steps and strategies that are discussed here are easy to follow.

Python is very useful programming language and it is a great skill to have. This book is a really good guidebook for beginners, it provides simple examples for essential things that you can do in Python. No prior knowledge is necessary in my opinion, this book starts from the very beginning and gradually introduces the reader to the key concepts and using Python.I really recommend this book, I've seen some other Python guides, but this is certainly among the top ones.

I know I didn't expect to learn Python in 7 days after reading this book, but boy was I wrong. The key is having someone who really understands computer languages combined with someone who knows how to teach. This book has the perfect combination that makes it nearly impossible not to learn Python so quickly if you are willing to put the daily work into it. You will be coding and hacking in no time with this wonderful resource. The step by step instructions and plenty of examples make it possible for anyone to learn this language quickly!

Though I took a required computer class years ago in high school I definitely consider myself a novice when it comes to programming. I'd heard of Python, but honestly was afraid of trying to tackle learning to code and thought it would be way over my head. I was pleasantly surprised with this book! This truly is a book for beginners and gives the meat and potatoes of Python without over complicating things. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to get their feet wet in the Python coding world!!

The author of this book made it very simple to understand how Python works, especially the basic concept of programming in general. I bought this just because I like learning but if you're interested in learning a language that is simple like a scripting language but powerful like a full blown language like C++ or Java, definitely get this.

This book is massive! Two to two and half inches thick foot wide and tall...huge. It weighs about 10 lbs. Every single page has names, brief history, brief meaning. It is a huge mess of names, and unfortunately someone neglected to make it very functional. There is a section in the back with meaning ideas and lists, unfortunately they are limited and general (ie, Saturn, Black, Aries, Virgo, Earth, Fire, Water, Spirit, Gold, White).The biggest thing I hate about this book is the producers did not provide a concise list for searching by origin/country. I personally like to view the names that originated from my ancestral background. I like choosing at least one option with that atavistic feel to it as an honor and acknowledgement of where our family came from and how we got here today.I would also have liked the book to have better division between sections it is a real solid search to find where one ends and another begins. The cover also should have been hardbound since the size is so massive. The cover as it is lacks the support to keep the book looking nice and neat also you can never set it upright unless you have other books holding it in place.

Every page turns up something fascinating, such as this intriguing name I found while browsing: Simaetha, a beautiful witch in a poem by the classical Greek poet Theocritus, and also the name of a genus of spiders.The book has indices which list all names by gender and theme (elements, seasons, colors, astrological signs, etc.). As a writer, I find this indispensable for writing a fantasy novel. It rarely leaves my desktop. Many of the names are more "common" and easily pronounceable, so you avoid that common issue in fantasy writing where your readers cannot pronounce your character's names.I do wish that names were organized by origin (Greek, Welsh, Anglo-Saxon, etc.) as for my purposes, this would be more helpful.

Great for reference but I wish they had more name meanings, i.e. Margaret means ‘pearl’ in _ language or Duane comes from ‘little dark one’ in Celtic, etc.

I loved this book. Who doesn't want to learn more about their name? The only thing I would have liked to see is more about the meaning of names, and less about who has that name. For example: My name is Tabitha. I know it was that name of Samantha Steven's daughter in the 1960's sit-com BeWitched, but tell me more about what my name means. I know it means gazelle, but what else can you tell me? This is definitely and interesting book for parents-to-be. Especially if they are looking for an out of the ordinary name.

My wife is an onomatomaniac and loved this book. It is very good, given that we own or have owned, almost every name book printed since 1641. It is sitting out in our living room and it gets reviewed every 48 hours at minimum.

Well researched and worth the cost. A lot of fun to flip through and it has a pronunciation guide sorted by female names and male names. Yes, the names sorted by themes but it's really a jumping off point

Very in depth and to the point. It really does seem like it is a complete list of names ever. The book is huge.
