I've bought this book for every Olympics since 1988 and have always found it to be an excellent resource for Olympic history. This year they moved to a new publisher which has presented the book in a less than acceptable manner. I think for most of us who get this book every Olympics, we found it hard to find and the distribution was much less. I used to be able to pick it up in Canada at Chapters long before the Olympics. This time it was available only on the American amazon site and only the e-book version was available on the Canadian site, and I couldn't find it elsewhere. The printing woes are those that others have mentioned. These include changes in the print font and size throughout the text, blurry text, the event schedule completely unreadable even with a magnify glass (believe me I tried), and no page numbers in the table of contents. It looks like a rush job. Also, there are very few new pictures in this release. I think only Sidney Crosby's 2010 picture is in this edition. Sadly, I hope this doesn't affect future releases of this book as so many of us depend on it for the updated Olympic history. Wallechinsky is a true historian and presents the results for the top 8 finalists in every event since the beginning of the Olympics. He now works together with his nephew, Jaime Loucky, which I hope means that the book will continue for years to come. It just needs an acceptable publisher. I'm sure they have been disappointed in this release. I think as a Canadian, the poor distribution was particularly disappointing, because the last Winter Olympics were in Vancouver and I wanted to read about what happened during the successful Olympics in my country.Although the summaries for the past Olympics are good, at times I wish for a little more human interest information, and sometimes I find some of his explanations to be a bit simplified in terms of what really occurred. I know I have felt this way about some of the judging scandals that are chronicled. Wallechinsky does not support awarding of medals after the fact as he feels it sets a bad precedence, however I feel cheating or major errors by judges take away from the Olympic movement as well when deserving medalists are not awarded correctly. As I read a lot about the Olympics at the time, I am sometimes disappointed with his explanations. However, the book is an excellent resource and should be in everyone's library who wants to know the history of the Olympics. I hope it is around for many years to come.

I got this book to update the one I had to the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow (The 2008 Edition did that for the Summer version and it was well done). This book has a lot of errors in it. For Nordic combined, it lists the old event of 7.5 km sprint and 15 km individual even though both events changed in late 2008 to 10 km individual large hill and 10 km individual normal hill. No details provided of the Gundersen system point time differential for competitiors in the individual and team event. There is no mention of ski cross in the freestyle skiing section which will debut at this year's Olympics. For cross country skiing on the combined/ double pursuit, the events listed are not accurate. 1992-8 were 10 km + 15 km combined men & 5 km + 10 km combined women, both separate days. 2002 was 10 km + 10 km combined men and 5 km + 5 km combined women, same day at seperate times. Since 2006, it has been 7.5 km + 7.5 km double pursuit women and 15 km + 15 km double pursuit men, a duathlon event. No explanation given for event. For the knowledge that Wallechinsky and Loucky have with the Olympics, this left something to be desired.

This review was identified on the site as being for the Kindle version. That is not correct. This relates to the paperback version. The quality of the print in this book is pretty bad--clearly the past tables were just copied--which would be fine if the print quality measured up.The daily schedule of the Sochi games is completely unreadable--aside from being squeezed onto one page with hopelessly small print, the image is very faint. You are now showing an option for "Look Inside this Book". When I did that, a note came up indicating that what I was seeing was the Kindle version and that this was not an option for the paperback. In that version, the daily schedule is in color, and on four pages. In the book, they have been shrunk to fit on one page.I have purchased these books before and always enjoyed them. I've been looking for the book all fall and thought maybe they weren't doing one this year. I'll probably be sending it back.

Unlike the companion volume for the 2012 Olympics this book was a big disappointment. My main complaint is the shoddy way it has been produced. Gives the impression of being printed in extreme haste using poor equipment. Many of the pages are virtually illegible. The contents page is also poor. Unlike the 2012 volume there is no indication on which page each event is recorded rather just the chapter in which it will appear. This makes finding a particular competion a long haul indeed. A big downer David & Jaime. Hope you can pull your socks up gor Rio.

I have purchased every edition of this book since 1984 and have relied on it for great historical information and photos … it has been the bible of the Olympics. So I was surprised and disgusted when I received this new edition and found how shoddily it was produced. I haven't even been able to force myself to look at it. Many of the pages, especially the photos, look like poor photocopies … if the content is as poorly prepared as physical format, I'm afraid this once-excellent source is a thing of the past!

I but an edition every winter and summer to get an idea of new sports and verify records from the last...some of the editing could have been tighter and in the past, there was a listing of when the current sports would occur...
