When she has recovered in the spring, she discovers pink flowers that look like little moccasins in place of her bloody footsteps. The simple, declarative text includes some Ojibwe terms that are defined within the narrative. Sources are cited in an authors' note. Unfortunately, the cartoonlike watercolors are lacking in cultural distinctiveness. The characters are wanting in articulation and expression. The palette is bright, with the main character dressed in orange, red, and purple, and landscapes often include a vivid green not found in nature. Though folktales are not to be taken literally, readers familiar with the Ojibwe will notice that the heroine does not wear snowshoes in her winter quest. This gives the impression more of a fragment than a fully developed story, but the image of the bloody footprints turning into flowers is sure to captivate children. Wonderful story of the bravery of the Ojibwe woman of the cold northern woods! This young girls story is great lesson for girls to hear. Girls can be brave and determined to do what must be done !

I had the pleasure of spending a day with Margi Preus and have subsequently read a number of her works. This lovely picture book retells an Ojibwe myth. The author chose an illustrator of Native American heritage. The story and pictures are sure to pleasure all young children, and the protagonist is particularly inspirational for young girls.

This is a beautiful Native legend about the lady slipper that is delightfully told with eye-catching illustrations.

A great book for showing girls as heroines and teaching about giving to others. A Native American folktale told by Native Americans adds to the richness of the story. Lends itself to several classroom studies including northern lights, heroes, folktales & legends, ladyslipper flowers and Native American culture.

It's a quick read with very short 'chapters' so you can easily read a few of the ABCs of Success and savor and think about each of the revelations and how they've applied in your own life. I found myself correlating most of his points to my life or someone in my family. Some points are simple and obvious, but we don't tend to keep those in the front of our mind and we need to be reminded of them on a regular basis. Others are more esoteric and will need more contemplation and thought to get the most out of them. This is a definite multiple read to get the most out of it.I wholeheartedly endorse this book and all of Bob Proctor's works. He is a master of his art and has changed the lives of so many in his 50 year career. Thanks Bob. :)

Frequently funny and brandishing an "'Murica damnit" sense of humor, I did enjoy this book.If I had one criticism it would be how the depictions of various strike missions tend to blur together. When you are reading your fourth or fifth description of an air-to-ground strike on a surface-to-air missile site, it's nigh impossible for the average reader to keep track of what's north, south, east and west, up, down, who's inverted and who's not. I am not sure how to correct this flaw except to dial back on the (in some cases) excruciating level of detail.

I am a military pilot wannabe. Many of these personal stories about flying do not capture the experience, or add so many tedious details. This book seems perfect in that balance of covering essential details, but keeping the pace for the story. The author tells enough of his own story with the bigger picture of world events that precipitate military actions to result in a very readable and memorable book. It would be a great novel if it were fiction, but even better because it all happened. I just wish my boss would rotate out every three years or so! Whoops. Yeah, I'm not a pilot. If you enjoy military flying stories, READ THIS BOOK!

I liked the detail in the book and essentially the life as a fighter pilot. I think some additional detail or talks about some of the missions would have been great to have. The author only really talks about his first real combat mission during the 1st Gulf War but doesn't talk at all about the rest of that war. I know the Iraqi Air Force and Army was a lot stronger then, and our weapons only got better going into the 2nd Gulf War. His details though were great, I'd like to see him maybe write some fiction fighter pilot war stories, I'll bet they would be great given his background and first hand knowledge.

Flying has always been a dream of mine and did have a brief stint some years ago. But Dan Hampton takes flying into a high rung of resourcefulness to attain air wings of flyers that make our world safer. Although the book is a riveting adventure into a technical flying machine that perhaps someone should be predestined to achieve. These flying machines are not for everyone as they depend on a sophisticated individual that must be intuitive, super intelligent, and psychologically fit. Dan Hampton takes you into the seat of his F-16 machine for hours on end and thrills you with his skills and endurance to do battle and to lead his fellow wingmen to victory.A wonderful experience for anyone wanting to know what goes on inside the canopy of these super airmen.

I do not like to read, but I finished this book in one sitting. Even without having read many books of the same genre, I seriously doubt there is any better account of the modern-day Wild Weasel fighter pilot. If you want to know what it's like to fly a fighter in combat today, read this book. If you might be offended by real language, spoken opinions, and the true danger of aerial combat, then buy the book, read it, and have your eyes opened a bit. The detail of LtCol Hampton's accounts is impressive and accurate. Like most significant emotional events in life, combat is hard to explain. Every person who has been in harm's way has his or her own individual experience. Each experience is just as difficult to convey as the next, but LtCol Hampton has done an excellent job of bringing us to the fight, and feeling like we are on his wing. I WAS on his wing, a lot, and as an FNG, I'm glad I was. This is an excellent book written by a talented pilot. I am writing this review for the book, but I would rank 2Dogs just as high as a pilot and leader. Yes, he is confident, yes he has pissed people off, and yes his book is all about HIS experiences. Average guys with uneventful lives who please everyone usually don't have much of a story to tell. Those guys can be found down in the 1-star area of this book's reviews. Go ahead, read all their opinions, but then see for yourself and form your own opinion about 2Dog's story. Trust me, Viper Pilot will not disappoint.

I have read my fair share of books on sexual abuse and trauma care, but none of them approach the topic as clearly and holistically as The Long Journey Home. Informative and honest, this book takes you through the details necessary to understanding sexual abuse. Sexual abuse can cause extensive emotional, mental, and spiritual damage, and this book seeks to explain, name, and address all of these things. The information in this book from trained and experienced theologians and psychologists is the best I have read. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to understand the deep psychological and spiritual repercussions sexual abuse, and how to help survivors heal. This issue presents unique and complex difficulties especially with spiritual healing, and this book addresses them, which is something I have not found elsewhere. As someone who is both a survivor of sexual abuse, and has spent the past five years working with survivors, I can say this book is as real as it gets. I believe this is a topic that is essential for ALL spiritual leaders to become familiar with, and this book by Andrew J. Schmutzer is one of the best resources out there. Read it.
