I bought this second hand old version of book and do not regret it. There are many pages about perspective that are really interesting. The problem with these books is that people tend to think they going to give you THE miracle solution to become a talented skilly guy just in 2 days...when actually books are only here to be read and their information assimilated. YOU NEED TO PRACTICE, I NEEED TO PRACTICE, AGAIN AND AGAIN and maybe one day....However, this book is a good start. Explanations are clear and good, but be aware that it is NOT a book for absolute or beginners. All the illustrations are in black and white and the illustrations are from the 70's which gives a nice retro air to the book.

this book is a masterpiece and a gem. the keys for learning drawing is all here. I read many art books but this book is the only one that make me finally get it! I was struggling with perspective and the author with few simple lines just explains it all! juts like that! and I was like O_Ojust get it specially if you are a serious beginner or struggling and you won't regret it. just follow what he says and just do it.

I have many drawing texts and this one quickly became one of my favorites.Drawing is so intuitive and other than having a live teacher, classes or a Udemy course this is the best in line.It is practical in orientation and not 'artsy, farsty' like too many other publications.

We bought this book for our 14 year old grandson's bithday who has taken an interest in drawing. It was a supplement to How to See, How to Draw by Claudia Nice that we previewed in Hobby Lobby. Read a lot of the reviews on both books. How to Draw What You See, seems to be a classic - maybe slightly outdated but still solid techniques. Many teacher reviews & comments of "good for beginners."Unfortunately we didn't see the Dec 26, 2013 4-star review by Debbie where she said, ". . . there are SEVERAL NUDES (page 97) in the section on figure drawing so might not be appropriate for all ages" . . . . My son happened to find it before giving it to him and managed to provide a "cover up" sweater.

So I thought this book would be some of the basic drawing styles, but wow did it open my eyes to all kinds of new things. Shading and proper ways to hold a pencil and such. I always thought that drawing was easy, but I never knew it was this interesting and technically challenging. Love the book. Buy it.

A great "Go To" book, for those that need a bit of a refresher on drawing skills, or strengthen them. I found this a keeper, somethings were often intimidating to draw, this book gets you past, it.

This is "old school" information, which I appreciate. In fact, there is a drawing of a doll called "Poor Pitiful Pearl" who was popular about 60 years ago. This is a good general book for beginners/intermediate. There are lessons in perspective, landscapes, figures and more. The only part of the book I thought was lacking was figure drawing. Overall, the information is helpful.

Coming from the Better Business Bureau, I was expecting something to teach me about the "business" aspect of operating an ebay business. Well written and thought out but if you are thinking about the Big Island, not so good. As I remember there are only two stories about individuals moving to the Big Island.

A worthwhile and educational relay of a variety of personal experiences from people moving to the different islands. The information and emotions shared gave my husband and I some good discussion material. If you are considering moving to Hawaii, this book should be among the ones you read for your research.

If you want to work as a farmhand for food and $25, then this book is for you. Or if you don't mind moving from rental to rental every few weeks or months, this book is for you. The only things I learned from this book are it's super expensive (already knew that part), centipedes and cockroaches are a part of every day life, and how to transport animals to the Islands. Where is the information on how to get jobs that are something other than agricultural or the service industry? And information on buying a home (not renting!) if you are lower or middle income? Since there are 30 participants in the book, I thought there would be a broader range of experiences, but that was not the case.

It was interesting to read but don't really help me. I don't want to live in Hawaii as a hobo

This is the best book I have read on the subject of privacy. It includes an examination of the philosophical, political, moral and technical aspects in a comprehensive yet not overwhelming way. There is little biases or editorializing. The book presents the facts with substance and depth that is refreshing and helpful in deciding what approach to privacy you may decide to adopt.The book builds on fundamental concepts of privacy, provides examples and builds on legal and philosophical points of view. I am using this book to develop approaches to data privacy for a number of organizations.If you work in the arena of data privacy or work with data you must read this book. If you are concerned or curious about the issues of data privacy you should read this book.

I got to Nissenbaum's book via other, less lucid works that cited her. This book looks at the fuzzy, hard to nail down concept of privacy and presents a very useful framework for what constitutes privacy violations and why we think our privacy has been violated sometimes, and not others.Her framework will not map to actual law, the process of regulation is too idiosyncratic and reactive for that. But it will help technologists, marketers and consumer advocates understand when and why we feel firm or government's actions have overstepped the bounds and violated our privacy expectations.

The author's conclusions run directly against the current developments in privacy law coming out of the EU, and are supportive of what one would call a pro-corporate view. As a CIPP certified attorney working in information governance, I do have an opinion on the matter, and think that American law needs to adjust and start looking at privacy as a right to control personal information AND have that access restricted. Had I bought this book when it came out, perhaps I would have given it 4 stars for the scholarship, but if you read it carefully the ideas attack the concept of "individual privacy" with respect to data in almost any way they can. It is troubling that this is the type of thinking currently adopted at the FTC as "newer." I took a course on data privacy law while at University of Miami School of Law in the early 2000's and have major problems with the authors core thesis. Even as a libertarian in some regards, I feel that data privacy should be afforded rights protection and regulated in some fashion as a human right - not through a hodgepodge of separate agencies and laws as it currently is with the FTC and others. To say that the current system is the right way - I'm not convinced by the artful legal writing. This book provides an example of what its like to take a law class with a professor who has an ideological bent: regulatory vs anti, and so forth. Annoyed that I bought this based on the already outdated thinking reflected in its contents, which ideologically opines that things are fine the way they are in a sense AND that we should put the topic of online data privacy rights and so forth to rest. Its propaganda in its own way.

In fact, in her book, "Privacy in Context: Technology, Policy, and the Integrity of Social Life", Helen Nissenbaum tries to abolish the public/private dichotomy, instead stressing the importance of social norms in dictating how information is shared.Nissenbaum studied philosophy from bachelors to doctoral, ending up a professor at New York University where she specializes in the philosophy and politics at technology. She laid the foundation for contextual privacy that the Federal Trade Comission has now begun to champion (http://www.ftc.gov/reports/preliminary-ftc-staff-report-protecting-consumer-privacy-era-rapid-change-proposed-framework). She continues to influence governmental and scientific bodies alike, lecturing on her contextual approach to privacy monthly.But on to the book itself. Nissenbaum does not write to the casual reader—she takes an idea, dissects it, analyzes from several angles (usually citing other philosophers), slowly recreates the original intent in a new light, then masterfully summarizes it in her own way. The book is split into three parts—the first, which I found to be the most engaging section, was a keen description on how information technology has changed the way privacy can be violated. The second remains purely theoretical, describing alternate approaches to privacy and beginning Nissenbaum’s attack on the public/private dichotomy. The third and final part presents in voluminous form her own approach to how violations to privacy should be evaluated.Though the author’s idea of contextual integrity has in some ways revolutionized the modern consideration of privacy, I struggle to agree with one of the book’s core beliefs: that privacy’s defense lies in social norms and expectations. Society’s expectations for informational flows change rapidly and unpredictably, and I doubt any philosophical theory that settles on popular opinion rather than logic or principles to defend its findings.In sum, the book has a great discussion on privacy and the ways it can be approached in modern society, however, the read is not for the faint of heart.
