We just LOVE Mercy Watson! So much so, that my son begged to own them instead of borrowing from the library. Both my 6 & 11 year old enjoy the stories. A great first chapter book for young readers too! (Large print, very short chapters). Vibrant illustrations! Thanks to these books, we have a little family inside “joke” from one of the lines that’s used in every book.

My son has struggled with reading so much and was really discouraged. He found Mercy at the local book store and fell in LOVE. He immediately read the entire book and wanted ALL of the Mercy books! Super cute stories, great illustrations and fun. Love them. He wanted me to write to Kate and ask her to write more books!

All of the Mercy Watson and Tales from Deckawoo Drive from Kate DiCamillo are the PERFECT reading level for my 6 year old. She started reading these when she was 5. Great beginning chapter books! Clean and respectful content, silly stories, good word repetition, opportunities to expand vocabulary and practice intonation...we sit and read together and giggle for hours!

This is a great series BECAUSE my child wants to read it. She wanted (and received) them all after reading the first one. This is good news, considering she has not been interested in reading. The illustrations are above par.

My second grade son loves all the Mercy Watson stories. He's able to read some of the story and have me alternately read to him as well. The illustration is excellent and the stories are entertaining and the perfect length. Read them all- your child will be happy with this series.

My daughter is entering first grade, and this book was the perfect reading level for her to tackle on her own. She actually lost it before she finished it (imagine) but instead of moving on, she insisted I buy another copy because she wanted to know how it ended. Magical!!

What a fun read! Mercy is a spoiled little pig that loves nothing more than to eat toast with a great deal of butter on it! It is very entertaining and my girls laugh almost the entire time! My kids are 6 and 3 and it keeps their attention the entire time! We now own all of the mercy Watson books and can't wait for more!

Beautiful illustrations and a fun story. A great introduction into chapter books. We have loved borrowing these from the library for years and finally decided to add the set to our home library.

I especially enjoyed the illustations as well as the authors well informed background given to Lincolns 2nd inaugural address. Mark Levins Preface to the book was especially touching. And have ordered the hard-covered edition as well because I think its that good. Lincoln has always been one of my favorite subjects and this illustrative historical book makes a good addition.

I have studied with some of the finest scholars on Lincoln---Chris Flannery and Mac Owens of the MAHG program at Ashland University, and thus have Lincoln's Second Inaugural in several formats. This edition is exemplary and a must have for every American as are the patriot Jack Levin's earlier editions of The Crossing and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The carefully (and I might say, lovingly) chosen photographs and illustrations bring background and give a full display of the context in which this speech was made.Lincoln had long abhorred slavery, seeing it as a betrayal of America's founding principles in the Declaration> He appealed to all Americans to recommit themselves to, and revive the heritage and liberty they cherished and see its natural extension.Southern powerbrokers, however, had been influenced by evolutionary theories on race and some German philosophy to repudiate our founding principles of "all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator" with unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in favor of a feudalistic and race-based slave system which Alexander Stephens saw as the "cornerstone" of the Southern lifestyle. Lincoln tried, in many speeches, notably speeches on the horrendous Dred Scott ruling and the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, to bring Americans together on their founding principles expressed in the Declaration.Mr. Levin's choice of title, Malice Toward None, points to the heart of Lincoln and his Second Inaugural address. Sadly, for all Americans, Lincoln was murdered not long after. Had he lived, North and South might have been truly reconciled sooner and many of the problems of Reconstruction might well have been avoided or at least minimized.Mr. Levin has provided a great service to all Americans in this visual age and hereafter by providing the "pictures of silver" frame for the "apples of gold," of Lincoln's conciliatory Second Inaugural Address. Thank you Jack, and thank you Mark.

Malice Towards None is the third book in Jack E. Levin s trilogy of great moments in American history. The other books in the series are The Gettysburg Address Illustrated and The Crossing dealing with Washington s crossing of the Delaware during the early days of the American Revolution. Jack Levin is the ninety year old year father of Mark Levin the host of a nationally syndicated radio program. The book begins with a good introduction by Mark Levin on his childhood experience with his siblings and two intelligent parent. My own parents made a point of taking my sister and I to nearby sites associated with Abraham Lincoln. Fortunately we lived in Indiana and Kentucky which were close to the sixteenth president s early years on the frontier. Since those distant days I have loved history. Books like Levin s will entice a child or uninformed adult to fall in love with our nation s rich heritage and great men and women. In our age of skepticism and doubt about the future of this abundant and good land many Americans need to realize the precious heritage of freedom and justice adhered to by our past ancestors and leaders. Lincoln Second Inaugural Address in which he spoke of reconciliation with the defeated Confederacy and the promise of malice toward none and charity towards all is one of the greatest speeches ever delivered. The short address resonates with biblical eloquence and profound truth. Kudos to Mr Levin. We hope this is not the final installment in this excellent series!

This is a great work. This is the kind of book that helps get history across to a whole new generation. Also, it helps older generations reignite with the greatness that we once had. This book helps people take another look back at those people that put it all on the line to advance the cause of this country because they loved it and they believed in it with every fiber of their being. Twice Lincoln rekindled the dream that was America. Once when he redefined exactly what our country stood for when he delivered the Gettysburg address. In those 200 plus words he defined why we were at war and exactly what we were trying to preserve and why. With his second inaugural address, Lincoln laid out his whole plan and showed a bloodied nation that healing and forgiveness could be achieved. With his words he could take the sword from the warriors hands and set everybody on a course to peace. It is just a real shame that we never were able to have him to guide the country on that path. It is almost like he came around exactly when he was needed and when his work was done he was called home. This book ignites the felling that this country can be heeled again. This book is very relevant in today's America. Great Job Mr. Levin, thank you.

I was first surprised at how thin this book is. His son has mentioned that this is one in a trilogy but being that this is my first Jack Levin book I don't know how this compares to those in style. Mark had touted the illustrations, but I had imagined that section in the middle of so many books where the pages are thicker and glossier and the images are so well printed. This whole book is that middle section. There are a few pages of brief remarks by Mark and Jack about historical background, then the Civil war era photos and illustrations begin, each with a few sentences of Lincoln's second inaugural address on them. The address is finally printed in its entirety at the end. This unique style is what creates a meditative experience for me, and I'll bet it will for you too. I'm a thirty-something, but this would be great for young adults as well.
